Cyclopentane

Cyclopentane is principally used as a blowing agent in foam manufacture and forms an excellent substitute for CFC's. It is recognised by environmental groups as having zero ozone depletion potential, making it a better alternative to HCFC 141-b. High stability of Cyclopentane blown foams also yield performance benefits over CFC 11 foams, even where these are still permitted to be used.

Cyclopentane and Cyclopentane 70 are particularly suitable for insulating foams used, for example, in home refrigeration appliances, although they also be used as aerosol propellants. Cyclopentane 70 is mixture of 70% cyclopentane and 30% isopentane, and differs from the pure cyclopentane grade mainly in its vapour pressure.
