Diisobutylene

Diisobutylene is a mixture of C8 isoolefins consisting of at least 90% 2,4,4-trimethylpentene-1/2 (split approximately 70/20). About 8% are other C8 isometric olefins.

Diisobutylene is an intermediate for a range of chemical products. These include isononyl alcohol, acid and esters, octylphenol, and sulphur additives for fuels and pesticides. It is also used as a co-monomer in the production of polymeric elastomers.
